Afya Elimu Loan 2018/2019 Disbursement – KMTC Funzo Helb Loan

The 5071 successful first-time applicants will get Shs 40,000 each through the Higher Education Loans Board, the body mandated to disburse the bursary funds. The figure is due to the insufficient funding and the high number of applicants, according to HELB CEO Mr Charles Ringera.

In the event held in Nairobi on 9th March, 2018, more than Kshs 210 million was allocated to needy students in medical training colleges, including faith based institutions.

The Fund, which now stands at 1.16 billion, was started in 2013 through the initiative of USAID through Funzo Kenya and has seen 12,561 students benefit. This disbursement will benefit 5071 students although this figure will rise to more than 17,000 students who have benefited from the Fund.

According to the acting KMTC Director Prof. Michael Kiptoo, the Fund has continued to improve its allocation to KMTC. In 2013, it gave KMTC students 80 million before raising the allocation to Kshs 194 million to benefit 4750 students the following year. In the 2015/2016 academic year, the Fund spent Kshs 240 million on 6,136 students.

Thanking the partners for coming up with the initiative, Prof. Kiptoo said the Fund had helped more than 16,000 students realize their goal of training in health. This, he added, would go a long way in helping KMTC contribute to Universal Health Care for all Kenyans, one of the Government’s big four agendas.

Afya Elimu Fund  allocated Kshs 210 million for the training of more than 5000 students in medical training colleges among the Kenya Medical Training College -KMTC.

Kenya Medical Training College, KMC took the biggest share – Kshs 178 million – which is 85 percent, with more than 4400 students benefiting.
