4G LTE Service, Safaricom 4g Network, 4g Internet in Kenya
4G, short for fourth generation, is the fourth generation of mobile telecommunications technology, succeeding 3G. A 4G system must provide capabilities defined by ITU in IMT Advanced. Potential and current applications include amended mobile web access, IP telephony, gaming services, high-definition mobile TV, video conferencing, 3D television, and cloud computing.
The 4G technology formally known as LTE Advanced is the most advanced version of the 4G system for mobile networks and promises to pass on significant improvements in data speeds and latency to its customers while maintaining superior voice quality.
In December, 2014, Safaricom launched its LTE Advanced 4G LTE network making it the first mobile operator in the Sub-Saharan region to launch the 4G Technology.
Speaking during the launch, Bob Collymore, Safaricom Chief Executive Officer, said the launch is as a result of a journey they embarked two years ago to develop the best network in the country.
“Today’s launch progresses our strategic push to democratize data. We believe in the transformative power of the internet and are keen to deliver the most advanced technologies to our subscribers in order to remain the network of choice.”
